Child Custody

Our firm represents clients living in Prince Georges and Montgomery County, Maryland, who need legal advice concerning child custody matters. Many couples have a difficult time agreeding to appropriate child custody arrangements.  Whenever a marriage ends in divorce or legal separation, or a domestic partnership terminates, decisions on how to handle the children must be made with sensitivity and discretion. We are familiar with the issues that must be resolved, and will work hard to make sure you understand all your legal options and propose a solution that fits your family's needs.

In a child custody proceeding, both parents should consider where their child will live, how much time the child will spend at each residence, whether both parents will share physical and legal custody ("rotating custody"), when the non-custodial parent may visit, and how both parents will make decisions about their child. The court will make decisions about custody based on the best interest of the child, taking into account each parent's  unique situation, the child's needs, each parent's economic situation and caretaking abilities, and the bonds between siblings if the child has brothers or sisters.

We can help you resolve child custody matters in an ongoing divorce or legal separation, and we can explain your legal options to you if you are considering leaving your current partner. We can also assist you if you are having problems with an existing court-ordered custodial arrangement.
