Divorce

Our firm serves the communities throughout Montgomery County and Prince Georges County. As a Maryland divorce law firm, we help clients who are considering a divorce or legal separation understand all their legal options.  We recognize how difficult ending a marriage may be and seek to help you through this difficult process with sensitivity.

If you and your spouse have children, real property, or other financial assets, we can also help you resolve many of the legal issues that arise in a divorce proceeding:

  • we can negotiate child custody arrangements, including whether a single parent or both parents will maintain physical custody and legal custody of a child;
  • we can negotiate child visitation schedules so that the non-custodial parent can maintain a relationship with a child;
  • we can resolve matters concerning child support and child maintenance, including seeking modifications to child support orders if circumstances change;
  • we can propose alimony or spousal/partner support arrangements;
  • we can plan and negotiate all aspects of asset and real property division, including securing an appraisal for all assets and seeking a fair apportionment of joint assets; and
  • we can advise you on tax issues that come up as a result of your divorce or legal separation.

Many clients express concern about the toll a court battle will take on themselves and their children. Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) offers a different path to the confrontational in-court resolution of issues arising in divorce and legal separation. Many people prefer this to the trial process, as mediation often provides for more satisfactory and hands-on conflict resolution. Families may also consider ADR for resolving matters that courts are not well equipped to decide, such as visitation and custody for grandparents, or issues that come up when same-sex partners separate. If you are interested in ADR, let us can help you determine whether your case is well-suited for this process. Our objective is to help you resolve all your claims privately and to your satisfaction, either in court or through ADR.
